Mumbai: Mumbai may witness rain right in the middle of December in the next couple of days. Reason: Cyclone Vardha which hit Tamil Nadu on Monday afternoon will slow down considerably in the next 24 hours and approach landmass, bringing with it mild showers in central as well as coastal Maharashtra, said the Mumbai division of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

V.K. Rajeev, director, IMD, said, “There will be an adverse effect on Mumbai, as the cyclone will slow down considerably when it approaches the landmass. But the city can expect mild rainfall over the next two days and a considerable drop in temperature. The atmosphere may be mildly windy but there is nothing to worry about.”

According to the meteorological department, Cyclone Vardha over the Bay of Bengal was moving towards the Indian landmass at a speed of around 13 kmph on Monday. However, by the time the cyclonic storm makes ‘landfall’, meaning when its centre touches India’s southern coastline, the speed will reduce drastically.

According to Skymet, an independent weather forecaster, Mumbai can expect dryness in the atmosphere with maximum temperatures ranging from 26 degrees C to 34 degrees C and minimum temperatures ranging between 20 degrees C and 7 degrees C.
