Mumbai: A 42-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly molesting a six-year-old minor girl for more than two months. The accused, a neighbour of the victim, used to lure her with chocolates or biscuits and inappropriately touch her.
His deeds came to light late on Monday when the victim confided in her mother about the ordeal. The Versova police immediately arrested the accused and booked him under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
According to police sources, the victim’s parents lodged a complaint on Monday after their daughter narrated what the “uncle” did to her on various occasions. The victim’s parents go to work, due to which the child was left in the neighbour’s care.
After first confronting the neighbour about the alleged sexual advances, the parents then approached the Versova police.
A police officer said that in September, the victim had been treated for bleeding from her private parts however at the time, she stayed mum about the abuse. The police suspects that the crime was committed when the victim was left under the neighbour’s watch for the first time in August.
Kiran Kale, senior police inspector, Versova police station, confirmed the news and said, “The arrest was made late on Monday, and the accused has been remanded to police custody till December 15.”
