Farooq Takla allowed to meet lawyer for 15 mins daily
Mumbai: A special CBI court on Tuesday allowed Mohammed Farooq Yasin Mansoor alias Farooq Takla’s lawyers' application seeking permission to meet him in CBI custody to provide him legal consultation. “The court has allowed our application to meet Farooq in CBI custody for 15 minutes everyday,” said Farooq’s lawyer Farhana Shah, who along with advocate Sultan Khan had moved various applications before the court.
Though the court has allowed any one lawyer to meet Farooq in CBI custody for fifteen minutes from 10am to 11am, the court rejected rest of the applications moved by them. Other applications included that his family members should be allowed to meet him in CBI custody and he should also be allowed to have home food, medicines provided by the family.
CBI counsel Deepak Salvi had opposed all the applications saying the applications were made to “throttle the ongoing investigation.” The CBI reply also said, “The accused cannot claim right to absolute silence and to be prevented from the criminal investigation by legal process, of the heinous crime committed by him.”
Special judge G.A. Sanap, while deciding the applications observed that the CBI would take care of his food and medicines in their custody and family members would not be allowed to meet when he is in the CBI custody.
