Mumbai: An NCP leader and legislator has been booked for financial irregularities, cheating and corruption in Solapur. Senior legislator Dilip Sopal, a six-term MLA from Barshi assembly constituency in Solapur district, was booked by local police for his role in financial irregularities linked to the APMC. Mr Sopal was chairman of APMC when the alleged scam unfolded. Mr Sopal is not the only NCP leader who has come under the scanner in the past few years.

Auditor in the cooperative department in Solapur district, Vishnu Doke, in the audit report of Barshi APMC from April 1, 2015 to March 31, 2016, came across financial irregularities to the tune of Rs 7.20 crore plus. As per the audit report, almost Rs 47.41 lakh was shown paid to servants on Sunday even though the APMC is shut on
that day. Further, Rs 13.80 lakh was found wrongly used for cold storage, while Rs 25.30 lakh was shown as rent paid. Mr Doke filed a complaint based on his audit report in Barshi, Solapur, against 125 persons, including Mr Sopal and other members of the APMC.
