Maharashtra gives nod to skill development scheme
The number of admissions to these institutions will be increased, the official further added.
Mumbai: In a bid to enhance the job skills of youth, the state council on Tuesday approved the Centre’s scheme — STRIVE (Skill Strengthening for Industrial Value Enhancement), which is backed by the World Bank. The move will help provide skilled human resources to various industries.
An official of the chief minister’s office (CMO) said, “Looking at the demand for skilled human resources from industries, the state has decided to implement this project.”
As per the policy, the efficiency of industrial training institutes (ITIs) will be improved, besides enhancing the capacity of ITIs and quality of trainees, among other things.
There are 417 government-owned Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and 550 private ITIs in the state. The number of admissions to these institutions will be increased, the official further added.
The STRIVE is a World Bank-assisted Union government project with the objective of improving the relevance and efficiency of skills training provided through ITIs and apprenticeships to youth.
