Health minister's grandchildren vaccinated with MRV
Mumbai: State health minister Deepak Sawant Thursday got the measles-rubella vaccine (MRV) administered to his grandchildren to quell any misconceptions among the people. There have been a lot of rumours regarding the vaccination drive in the state. One-and-a-half crore children in the state have been inoculated so far.
The minister was present at the vaccination session organised by the Mumbai Municipal Corporation at the privately-run CNMS School in Vile Parle. His grandchildren who study in that school were inoculated. The MRV drive has commenced in the state since November 27.
Currently, the vaccination of students studying in schools is underway. Two weeks of the six-week vaccination drive have been completed. The target is to vaccinate ten lakh children daily in the state. One-and-a-half crore students in the state have been vaccinated till date and the state has achieved 45 per cent of its aggregate target.
Dr Sawant told The Asian Age, “We have taken a vow to eradicate the diseases affecting kids. There is some confusion amongst parents due to some misunderstanding with respect to this vaccination drive and there have been instances of parents refusing to get their children vaccinated.”
“However, the vaccine is totally safe and I have got my own grandchildren vaccinated in this MRV drive,” he said.
