Mumbai: Deputy general manager of ONGC, Pankaj Garg, who died in that helicopter that crashed in the Arabian Sea near Uttan, off the Mumbai coast, on Saturday morning was cremated at Santacruz on Sunday. His body was brought at his residence at Kalina on Sunday. Garg is survived by his wife Anjali and daughters Ojhaswi (19) and Rashi (6). Pawan Hans said in a statement that the French-made Dauphin SA 365N3 helicopter met with an accident and the chopper crash is being probed by the aviation regulation DGCA.
The family saw a lot of neighbours rally around them and words like friendly, jovial, workaholic were attributed to Garg. Neighbour and secretary of Silver Square Joy Francis said, “He was friendly and always greeted you with a smile even if he was in a hurry.” L.N. Shetty, chairman of the housing society said he was always working. “His car would come in and out at odd hours. We asked him to become a part of the society but he only laughed it off because he was never around during the day time,” Mr Shetty said.
Garg’s daughter Rashi was not informed about her father’s death until his body was brought home in the evening.
