The total work period for the revamp of Mahim beach would be of six months excluding monsoon.
Mumbai: After Juhu and other beaches along the Malad West coast, it is now turn of the one-km long Mahim beach to get illuminated. Apart from lighting up the area, the Brihanmubai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to set up a playing area for children, exercise equipment and a watch-tower at the beach.
The total work period for the revamp of Mahim beach would be of six months excluding monsoon. Civic officials said that the work is expected to cost the BMC `1.39 crores, including a 12-month defect liability period, which will ensure free-of-cost repairs in case any of the lights, which have been fixed are damaged. In case of delay in completing the work, the contractor would be penalized 1 per cent of the total contract cost every week for the same.
The BMC has already revamped the Juhu beach and a stretch of several beaches along the Malad West coast by illuminating them with colourful light-emitting diode (LED) lights. The beaches along Malad include Silver, Erangal, Dana-pani, Aksa, Marwe and Manori beaches.
According to civic officials, beaches are major tourist attractions in the city. The eco-friendly decorative colourful LED lights will further enhance the beauty of beaches.
Under the beaches illumination and beautification project, the BMC has installed total 198 nine-metre high po-les having advanced LED lights on a space of 4.25 kms along the-se beaches. Of them, Aksa beach has 50 pol-es, Silver 45, Danapani 22, Erangal 20, Marwe 15 and Manori 46 poles.
“The beaches illumination project will help to increase tourism in the city and will also ensure beach safety,” said a civic official.
