PWD not lifting malba, leading to air pollution'

The mayor directed the corporation's officials to get the debris removed from the road.

New Delhi: The BJP-ruled North Delhi Municipal Corporation on Monday alleged that Delhi government’s Public Works Department (PWD) is not lifting malba or construction and demolition (C&D) waste from its roads leading to air pollution.

Mayor of North Delhi Adesh Gupta said that PWD is not lifting malba or C&D waste properly due to which dust particles are increasing in the air and causing air pollution in the city.

The mayor said that while coming from Anand Parbat, he saw that there were heaps of debris and malba laying on the main road which comes under PWD jurisdiction.

The mayor directed the corporation’s officials to get the debris removed from the road and issue challan to PWD for default so that the people of Delhi would not face air pollution.

“North Delhi’s Swachhta Sarvekshan ranking is not able to improve because of the work of the agencies under the Delhi government,” he said.

“The PWD being government department must take care of malba and C&D waste and must adhere to guidelines of EPCA and NGT. PWD is careless on the issue and heaps of malba at public places can be seen frequently. This not only keeps the city dirty but also leads to pollution which Delhiites have suffer,” Mr Gupta added.
