Call off campaign for my release: Chhagan Bhujbal

Bhujbal was denied bail by a session court in December 2017, and now he has applied for bail in the High Court.

Mumbai: Jailed Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Chhagan Bhujbal has appealed to his supporters to stop meeting other political leaders for seeking his release immediately. Mr Bhujbal made this appeal through his son and NCP MLA Pankaj Bhujbal.

The NCP leader’s supporters had met Raj Thackeray, Prakash Ambedkar and others leaders over the issue of Bhujbal’s bail. Supporters have also planned a rally in Mumbai during the upcoming budget session. But after understanding the repercussions of such a move, Mr Bhujbal has asked supporters to not continue with the Bhujbal Chhodo Abhiyan.

Mr Bhujbal was denied bail by a session court in December 2017, and now he has applied for bail in the Bombay High Court. Bhujbal’s supporters believe that the court is under political pressure. Therefore, they have launched a Bhujbal Chhodo Abhiyan.

As a part of the campaign, Bhujbal’s supporters are meeting different political leaders and requesting them to join the campaign. Recently, Bhujbal’s supporters met Maharashtra Navnirman chief Raj Thackeray who was one of the strongest critics of Mr Bhujbal.

On Wednesday, Bhujbal met his son Pankaj when he was produced before the Bombay high court for the hearing of his bail. Bhujbal asked his son to issue a statement to his supporters to call off all the campaign.

“I understand and respect your love and emotions for me. But we should respect the court, and I have complete faith that it will give us justice,” said Mr Bhujbal to his supporters.

Bhujbal supporters have also announced a rally in Mumbai during the budget session for his release. But after this statement, this rally is likely to be called off.
