No land in sight for Marathi Bhasha Bhavan
Mumbai: Land crunch for the proposed Marathi Bhasha Bhavan continues though the state cabinet has decided to set up such a centre in Mumbai on Wednesday. A plot will be identified in South Mumbai or the suburban BKC for the main centre while a sub-centre will be developed in Navi Mumbai at Airoli on a 200 square meter plot.
Tourism and cultural department has a land at Bandra, but part of it will be given permanently and other part for 3 years to metro rail corporation. After completion of all metro projects, this land can be used for Marathi Bhasha Bhavan.
Transport Minister and Shivsena leader Diwakar Raote had demanded a land of Bombay gymkhana for Marathi Bhasha Bhavan. He asked government that lease should not be renewed. But CM Devendra Fadnavis did not agree with this. Mr Raote has demanded that government should allot the land in South Mumbai.
Heritage committee has refused the proposal of utilising Rangbhavan land which is near CST.
CIDCO is giving the Airoli land for sub centre at the cost of Rs 3.63 cr. State has made provision in the budget since 2013, but land still isn’t available.
