Woman lies in front of train, dies

The initial investigation revealed that she committed suicide due to disappointment in love and family quarrels.

Mumbai: A 26-year-old beautician, Snehal Sathe committed suicide on Saturday night by lying on the tracks in front of an incoming train in Dombivali.

The Titwala-bound suburban train could not stop in time, as the woman could not be seen in the darkness.

The police’s preliminary investigation suggested that the deceased’s extreme step could be linked to her disappointment in love and family quarrels.

The government railway police (GRP) said some people and motorman informed the GRP officials about a girl who lay down on the track exactly when the train came.

One of the witnesses, Jignesh Shah, a Thane resident said, “I was waiting on the platform number 3 when I saw this. I was so shocked and could not even scream.” Sathe, a resident of Kalyan, was working in Dombivli and took this step after leaving for home from work.

The government railway police said, “The girl had planned the suicide in advance as she had thrown her SIM card from her mobile phone. She had also formatted her phone; call logs, messages were all deleted. She also lied down on the place where there were no lights so no one could see her. It was pre-planned well in advance but she didn’t write any suicide note.”

The government railway police found that Snehal Sathe’s parents to be divorced and the family was undergoing a couple of troubles. Sathe had also recently broken up an affair.

“We are still looking for the reason behind her extreme step. Her family is in trauma so we can’t bother them. We have called her friends for further investigation and soon we will get more information,” said an official.
