Mumbai: Senior NCP leader and former deputy chief minister Chhagan Bhujbal (71) Monday evening was admitted to privately-run Lilavati Hospital in Bandra for further treatment. Mr Bhujbal, who was granted bail in a money-laundering case on May 4, was discharged from civic-run KEM hospital last Thursday, where he underwent treatment for almost two months.

Dr Ravi Shankar, chief executive officer of Lilavati, told The Asian Age, “Mr Bhujbal has been admitted with us and is undergoing consultation with concerned specialists for further treatment.”

Citing medical confidentiality, Dr Shankar refused to divulge further details about what was ailing Mr Bhujbal.

Suffering from various ailments, Mr Bhujbal, was admitted to state-run J.J. Hospital in early March before being shifted to KEM Hospital later that month. He was shifted to KEM Hospital on March 13 after a special court directed that he undergo two tests. The test reports revealed that he suffered from pancreatitis, asthma and high blood pressure. At the time he was discharged, his son, Pankaj, said that he would have to be admitted again for treatment and surgery.

During his two years in jail, Mr Bhujbal was admitted to hospital several times. He was granted bail on May 4 by the Bombay high court after it took into consideration his age and deteriorating health. Mr Bhujbal, who handled the Public Works Department in the Congress-NCP government, was arrested in March 2016 after the Enforcement Directorate in an inquiry found that he had allegedly misused office for awarding contracts for PWD projects, causing losses to the exchequer.
