Armaan Kohli needs to express remorse in affidavit: HC
Mumbai: The Bombay high court on Thursday directed Bollywood actor Armaan Kohli to submit an affidavit “expressing regret and remorse” for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend and an assurance that he would not repeat such behaviour in the future.
The HC was hearing a petition filed by Kohli seeking quashing of the FIR registered against him for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend as both of them had arrived at a settlement after Kohli paid her monetary compensation. The court has asked Kohli’s girlfriend to appear before the court on Friday after the prosecution opposed Kohli’s plea, stating that she could have been pressurised to settle the matter.
A division bench of Justices R.M. Savant and Revati Mohite-Dere were hearing Kohli’s plea wherein he claimed that his girlfriend had sustained injuries as alleged in her complaint to the police while falling down the stairs after he had pushed her. The girlfriend who was present in court, however, denied Kohli’s claims.
After hearing both sides, the court said that it could not keep quashing complaints mechanically. The bench further said that regardless of the compensation paid by Kohli, considering that this was not the first time that he was guilty of being physically aggressive, the bench had to see some expression of remorse and regret on his part.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Bandra Metropolitan Magistrate Court had rejected the bail application of Kohli on the ground that he had been declared absconding after his girlfriend lodged complaints of assault and physical intimidation by him. The court had upheld the prosecutors’ contention that Kohli had been arrested from outside Mumbai, ie Lonavala on Tuesday and hence his remand was required. The magistrate had accepted the same and had sent Kohli to judicial custody till June 26.
