Youth sentenced to life for sexually assaulting sister
Mumbai: A special POCSO court on Thursday convicted and sentenced a youth to life imprisonment for sexually assaulting his sister and having unnatural sex with her over two years.
The incident came to light when a workshop was held at the victim’s school in 2014 where students were taught about the good and bad touch and sexual abuse. After attending the workshop, the girl was able to gather courage and share her ordeal with her teacher who later called a counsellor from the child line and an FIR was lodged against the youth.
Public prosecutor Geeta Sharma had examined girl as the witness who had told the court that in 2012 the victim was 13 years old and was studying in Class 8. At that time, her mother had got married to another person and hadleft them.
The girl’s father had to spend most of the time at their village to look after their farms and other business in UP.
The victim used to stay with two brothers and a younger sister. In 2012 one of her brothers came home in an inebriated state and had raped her. At that time apart from the victim her younger sister was sleeping in the house. Since her father was at their village and there was no elder person at home, the victim could not tell anybody about the incident.
Later, for two years, the accused used to have unnatural sex with the victim whenever he got a chance.
During trial testimony of victim, her teacher and the victim’s medical records were relied upon and judge M.A. Baralia sentenced the convict to undergo life imprisonment.
