Police bust gambling racket in Kashimira, 28 arrested

Mumbai: The sleuths of Thane (rural) police busted a gambling racket that was being operated from a farmhouse located near a remote hamlet on the Thane-Ghodunder Road late on Monday night.

Twenty-eight people were arrested and booked under the relevant sections of the IPC and the Mumbai Prevention of Gambling Act.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team kept surveillance and after confirming the authenticity of the information swooped dow-n on the farmhouse near Chena at around 11.30 pm on Monday. 28 people who were facilitating the gambling operations by accepting and forwarding matka bets through mobile communication were caught red handed.

Further, the police team seized cash, 58 mobile phones and a laptop; all amounting more than Rs 2 lakh.
