Mumbai: Although the government has said it will strengthen public transport, state transport (ST) corporation buses will not get toll exemption on the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Mahamarg, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis’ dream project. Recently, the CM refused transport minister Diwakar Raote’s proposal.

The MSRDC (Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation) has geared up to start construction of the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Mahamarg. It has issued wo-
rk orders for 10 out of 16 blocks and will issue work orders in the remaining three blocks by month-end, said MSRDC MD Radheshyam Mopalwar. MSRDC recently led the presentation on the project before the cabinet.

Mr Raote asked the CM and MSRDC officials to make ST buses exempt from toll as the MSRDC was helming the project. If toll exemption is granted to ST buses, passengers will be charged. Mr Raote’s proposal was not approved. The ST corporation faces a burden of Rs 500 crore per annum.
