New RTO website enables online registration of cars
Mumbai: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) recently launched parivahan.gov.in, a website on which new vehicles can be registered online, meaning the process need no longer be done offline. The website started operating from Tuesday, with training being provided to 50 dealers from showrooms across the city.
The RTO’s new website would help reduce the time that dealers take to register new vehicles on a daily basis. In the offline method, the registration process takes three to four days to get completed. But with the online procedure, the process would take less than a day’s time, thereby ensuring customers faster delivery.
Sanjay Maitre, deputy officer, RTO, said, “While inserting the data manually, the chances of mistakes were possibly high. But now, since everything has been made online, the procedure will be swift and efficient. The RTO, on an average, files 125 new cases manually everyday, but with this online process, the task of inserting adequate data will be comparatively easier.”
To make this website regular in use, 50 car dealers from Mumbai have been provided with internal training so that they can adapt to how the online procedure works. The online procedure is less time consuming and would provide the new car’s registration number at the earliest, thereby ensuring that dealers can facilitate speedy car delivery.
Shatish, a car dealer from Pilot 2 Wheelers in Chembur, said, “We are used to the offline process. But the training for the online registration process has just commenced and, so far, the online process looks much simpler than the offline one. This process will save time and help both dealers and customers.”
Other benefits that online registration would provide RTO officials with include being able to reduce the amount of paper used for registrations and eventually digitalising the entire process of registering new cars bought from a showroom.
The RTO has also decided to make the ‘saarthi.nic’ website available to the public in 15 days. With this, consumers would be able to complete a number of procedures online, such as transfer of car papers, vehicle verification and VIP number application.
