Vehicle jumps signal at Kalanagar, brushes Aaditya Thackeray's car.

Mumbai: Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray’s BMW sedan (MH 02 CB 1234) met with a minor accident after a car jumped a signal and rammed into his vehicle.

According to the Kherwadi police, the incident took place on Sunday afternoon near Kalanagar Junction, a stone’s throw from his Matoshree residence. The opposite car, a Suzuki Celerio (MH 03 CB 4305) had allegedly jumped a signal and grazed Mr Thackeray’s vehicle. In a bid to avoid a head-on collision, the latter swerved his car but hit another car.

The Kherwadi police after verifying the driver’s age and car papers let him go, as Mr Thackeray did not want to press charges. Sources from Kherwadi police station said the incident happened at 1.30 pm on Sunday. “At the Kalanagar junction a Suzuki Celerio being driven by a male jumped the signal and hit a BMW. The BMW to avoid a head on collision swerved and in the process hit the Celerio’s door,” said a senior officer from Kherwadi police. Sources revealed that Mr Thackeray was at the wheel and was going towards Worli. “The other car was going towards Santa Cruz and at the wheel was a 24-year-old travelling with his parents,” said another officer.

Traffic police sources said that there was no traffic policeman posted in the area and if the CCTV had captured the signal jumping, an e-challan would reach the registered owner of the vehicle. The Kherwadi police who reached the spot after being informed by Mr Thackeray about the incident said the latter did not want to press charges. “The other car did not see that the signal was red and drove ahead and in that process hit Mr Thackeray’s car. We checked the papers of the both cars and the licenses of Mr Thackeray and the other driver and finding nothing amiss let them go,” said Rajendra Patil, senior police inspector, Kherwadi police. He added that Mr Thackeray did not want to press charges and it was a minor accident.

Mr Thackeray on his Twitter account said, “Thank you for your concern and calls. I met with an accident being hit by a speeding car that jumped a signal at Kalanagar junction. Everyone is safe and sound. The car that jumped the signal is fine too. Thank you for the prayers and good wishes that keep us safe.
