Mumbai: A 38-year-old manager of a renowned retail outlet was apprehended for molesting multiple women at isolated spots while riding his two-wheeler to work and back. The Navghar police in Mulund arrested the said accused after a woman lodged a similar complaint against him on February 7.

The accused was identified as Viren Shah, a resident of Charai in Thane, who has two other cases of molestation registered against him at the Kopri police station in Thane. The accused is married and has children, the police said.

On receiving the complaint, the police scanned the neighbourhood CCTV camera footage and identified the accused, based on the description of the bike. Based on specific information, the accused was arrested from the RCT Mall in Ghatkopar where he works as a manager with a retail chain.

“The accused would ride his Bullet two-wheeler and target women at isolated spots taking advantage of the darkness. We are probing if there are more such cases against him with other police stations,” said Akhilesh Singh, deputy commissioner of police, zone seven.

The officials said that the first two incidents took place last month in the Kopri area in Thane.  In one of the incidents, Shah molested the victim in broad daylight, while he was going to work.

The Kopri police has been informed about the arrest and it will also take his custody after the Navghar police completes its investigation, the police said.

A case of molestation under Indian Penal Code section 354 has been registered against the accus-ed and he has been rem-anded to police custody.
