Crude joke on Kathua rape sets Twitter ablaze
Mumbai: At a time when the nation is witnessing an uproar against the rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir, an obscene comment on the incident posted on Twitter, by a man, who identifies himself as Vikram Singh Rajput, has invited the ire of civil society.
Some Twitter users even went so far as to tag his comments to the Mumbai police’s Twitter handle, asking them to take action against him. However, there has no response from the police. In fact, none of the police officers, who were contacted by The Asian Age responded, so it is still not known if any action has been initiated against the man or not.
In his post, the man, whose social media account declares that he is a supporter of a political party, says that it must have been a lot of fun in raping the victim. “******** vaa kitna maja aya rahega” reads the comment.
People, cutting across caste, creed and religious lines, have lambasted the man, asking the police to initiate some action against him for making such a crude comment, as it could potentially harm communal harmony. There was a mobile number also mentioned with the message, supposedly belonging to Rajput. However, it was found to be switched off since this paper made attempts to talk to Rajput.
Phone calls to several police officers, including Jt CP Deven Bharti and police PRO Deepak Devraj went unanswered. Even messages sent to them remained unanswered till late in the night.
