Mumbai: The Bombay high court has rejected a petition filed by a female journalist who had alleged that despite getting selected in the Maharashtra Housing and Development Authority’s (MHADA) lottery scheme in May 2015, the housing corporation had refused to hand over possession of the flat. After hearing the petition of Swati Rajbhar, the journalist, the court held that the woman had deliberately hidden from Mhada the fact that she is married.
A single bench of Justice Rajesh Ketkar was hearing a petition challenging the order of chief public relations officer of Mhada, which held that denying the flat to Ms Rajbhar, is according to the law.
Meanwhile, a lawyer for Santoshi Mishra, another female journalist, said Ms Mishra did not get a flat under Mhada’s scheme because Ms Rajbhar had submitted false documents. Ms Mishra did not win the Mhada lottery but has been shortlisted.
According to the petition filed in by Ms Rajbhar in the high court, she had filed an online form of the lottery in April 2015. While submitting the form she had declared herself to be single. In May 2016, Ms Rajbhar got a flat at Gavanpada Mulund east under the middle income group category.
Meanwhile, Ms Mishra registered a complaint with Mhada regarding Ms Rajbhar’s marital status and her husband’s income. Ms Mishra also provided documents along with her complaint.
