Mumbai: An Information Technology (IT) professional Vilas Parkar (52), was arrested by Kherwadi police on Sunday after a carpenter Vikas Kudtarkar (47) who was carrying out house repairs in Parkar’s house died due to an electric shock. The Kherwadi police has arrested and booked Parkar under section 304 (A) of the Indian Penal Code that pertains to death caused due to negligence.

Sources in Kherwadi police station said Parkar’s house had a mezzanine floor with two extra floors constructed illegally in the slum. The sources added there was no proper staircase to go to the higher floor and hence it was negligence on the part of the accused.

The incident took place in the slums of Kherwadi. The accused was staying in a rented house, as his house was being renovated. When the carpenter died due to the electric shock, he was alone, as the Parkars had left for lunch at his relative’s place. According to the locals, when Kudtarkar’s daughter went to call him for lunch, her father did not respond to her, following which she called her mother who saw him dead on the floor.

Inspector Soan Kadam, the investigating officer of the case told The Asian Age, “The incident took place on Sunday morning when the deceased Kudtarkar was working on the second floor of the house. The carpenter was found lying dead in the under-constructed house, and when we reached the spot, we found out through primary investigation that he was left alone in the house without any proper staircase or assistance.”
