Rail staff, police, co-passengers help woman deliver twins at Kalyan stn

Both the mother and twins have been admitted to a Kalyan hospital.

MUMBAI: A woman (30) onboard an outstation train was blessed with twins – a girl and a boy – on platform number four of Kalyan station Sunday morning. The girl was born at 7.35 am while the train was on its way to Kalyan after having left LTT, while the boy was born15 minutes later when the train halted at platform number four of Kalyan station. At the time, railway medical staff and female police personnel had reached the woman, who was accompanied by her father and mother during the family’s journey to Hyderabad. Both the mother and twins have been admitted to a Kalyan hospital.

A RPF official said that the passenger, Shaikh Salma Tabassum, a resident of Narayan Nagar, Ghatkopar, Mumbai, had boarded the Visakhapatnam Express from LTT, along with her parents. She experienced labour pain while the train was headed to Kalyan station.

“We were intimated abo-ut Tabassum’s labour pain by her family. Hence, two ladies constables and one sub-inspector were stationed on platform number four to attend to her. The medical staff of the station was also intimated,” he said.

A senior Central Railway (CR) official said, “After receiving the information, on-duty sub-inspector Nitin Gaur along with RPF ladies head constables Neelam Gupta and Surekha Kadam attended Tabas-sum at Kalyan. She was later blessed with twins; a girl and a boy.”

After the delivery, Tabassum and her twins were de-boarded in the presence of railway medical staff, the station master and government railway police for further medical procedure.
