Mumbai University misses August 15 deadline too

Even now, 1,69,996 answer papers are yet to be assessed. Students have been waiting for their results for the last three and half months.

Mumbai: Mumbai University (MU) on Tuesday missed its latest deadline to declare all the results by August 15 of the final year degree college students. On Tuesday, the varsity managed to announce only two results out of 146 results that were pending till Monday. Even now, 1,69,996 answer papers are yet to be assessed. Students have been waiting for their results for the last three and half months.

Since August 2, MU has managed to announce results of only four to five examinations every day. Apart from the technical fault in the new digital assessment system that has been introduced, teachers or the assessors who assess the answer papers have also been found wanting.

However, in order to curb the issue, MU’s new Acting VC Devanand Shinde has been continuously holding meetings with the teachers and the makers of the On-Screen Assessment (OSM) system, MeritTrac.

The saga of delay in results started when vice-chancellor Sanjay Deshmukh came up with ‘online assessment’ in the month of January where all the answer sheets of the final year degree college students will be assessed online by the teachers.

Mr Deshmukh initiated the scheme in order to remove all the malpractices in the system and the university. However, the idea backfired when teachers, who are used to the pen and paper method of assessment, could not get used to the online assessment system. The technical snags in the system was also and important contributing factor to the delay.
