Our aim is to make farmers debt-free, says CM Fadnavis

Farmers attempted to disrupt flag hoisting by district guardian ministers and independence day celebrations at some places in the state.

Mumbai: Speaking on the occasion of independence day on Tuesday, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said that his government aims to make farmers in the state debt-free. After unfurling tricolour in Mumbai, Mr Fadnavis also announced that by 2019 every person in the state would get a house as the construction of three lakh houses has started under ‘houses for all’ scheme. “Every citizen should contribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mission of creating a Nav Bharat (New India)”, he said.

Meanwhile, farmers attempted to disrupt flag hoisting by district guardian ministers and independence day celebrations at some places in the state.

Members of the core committee comprising of representatives of various farmer groups had on Saturday said that guardian ministers would not be allowed to unfurl the national flag at district headquarters on August 15 if the government fails to announce an unconditional loan waiver.

“The loan-waiver announced by the BJP-led government in the state is full of flaws and riders. Those should be done away with,” said Raghunanthdada Patil, a member of the committee.

“There should be a complete loan-waiver for farmers. Only then will we allow ministers to unfurl the national flag,” Mr Patil had said on Saturday.

Mr Fadnavis’ remark of making farmers debt-free in the state was seen as a reaction to the ongoing agitation.
