The youth leader alleged that he received a call from Ravi Pujari on June 8 this year.

Mumbai: Youth leader and member of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly, Jignesh Mevani, has alleged that despite threats to his life from the underworld, the Centre has not given him adequate protection. Speaking at a rally in Chaityabhoomi, Dadar, on Wednesday, Mr Mevani claimed that there were threats to his life as well as the lives of other youth leaders.

“Shehla Rashid, Umar Khalid and I got calls from Ravi Pujari some months ago. He threatened us with our lives,” said Mr Mevani, who was speaking in the context of the recent attack on Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) leader Umar Khalid in New Delhi on Monday. “These threats have been there since some time now. We have informed the police too. But this government is purposely ignoring our security,” Mr Mevani said.

The youth leader alleged that he received a call from Ravi Pujari on June 8 this year. Also, JNU student leader Shehla Rashid on Tuesday filed a police complaint in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, that she was threatened with by Pujari at the time of the attack on Umar Khalid. Mr Mevani went so far as to say that some powers wanted to shut their voices as they were feeling unsettled. “But, we’ll keep talking.”
