Mumbai: Seven Bangladeshi immigrants, including three women were arrested by the Kashimira  police for their illegal stay in the country on Tuesday. The arrest took place after officials from the Special Branch-I of the Mumbai CID received information about the presence of illegal immigrants in Mira Road. The immigrants have been sent to judicial custody and the cops are investigating how they infiltrated into the country.

The CID team, along with their counterparts in the Mira Road police station, swooped down at tenements in areas like Ramdev Park and rounded up seven suspects.

According to the police, after the suspects failed to produce legitimate documents authorising their stay in the country, they were arrested and booked under relevant sections of the Indian Passport Act and Foreigners Act.

The owner of the apartment, who has been identified as Kamleshwar Yadav, was also booked for providing shelter to the illegal immigrants, said an investigating office, .

The officers sounded a note of caution to those who rent out their premises or employ staff, especially domestic help, without verifying credentials.
