Man arrested for killing wife with granite tile
Mumbai: A man allegedly who attacked his wife with a piece of granite tile in a fit of rage, killing her in the process, was arrested on Saturday evening.
Neighbours of Rajaram Shetty in Arvind Patil Nagar at Chembur heard a loud thud around 11 am on Saturday. When they rushed to the spot, they found the wife Babita Shetty (29) lying in a pool of blood. They alerted the police immediately, following which Rajaram was arrested when allegedly trying to flee the city.
The police said it is yet to find out the reason behind Rajaram’s alleged action.
Police sources said the couple was having a loud argument at their residence on Saturday.
In the course of the argument, an enraged Rajaram picked up a piece of granite lying on the floor and hit Babita on her head.
Rajaram soon left the scene of the incident and tried to the flee the city, sources said. Once the neighbours alerted the police, a search operation was launched and Rajaram was arrested at a bus stand.
Shashikant Mane, senior police inspector of Govandi police station, confirmed the incident and said, “The murder weapon has been recovered and the accused has been arrested. The police is yet to know the reason behind his action and the investigation is underway.”
Babita’s body was sent to the civic-run Sion Hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.
