Contract for 378 metro coaches to be finalised

The coaches are being procured by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.

Mumbai: The contract for 378 coaches (rolling stock) for three metro lines will be finalised by the end of this month, confirmed the Mumbai Metropoli-tan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). The coaches are being procured by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the nodal agen-cy for metro 2A (Dahisar to D.N. Nagar); metro 2B (D.N. Nagar to Mandale); and metro 7 (Andheri east to Dahisar east).

“The contractor for purchasing the rolling stock will be finalised by the end of this month. The financial bids will be opened and the cost will be analysed before awa-rding the contract,” said Pravin Darade, additional metropolitan commissioner, MMRDA.

Nearly seven companies had come forward for the bidding process including: Hyundai Rote-m (Korea); Bombardier India & Bombardier Ger-many; CRRC Corpor-ati-on Ltd; Bharat Earth Mo-vers Ltd; Titagarh Wag-ons & Titagarh Firema; Alstom Transport India & Alstom SA; and CAF India & CAF Spain. The contractor will be responsible for providing 378 coaches for the three metro lines. The authority had floated tenders on April 19 this year.

Along with providing rolling stock, the eligible contractor will be responsible for setting up signaling and telecommunication, platform screen doors, lifts and automatic fare collection gates at the metro stations. The bids were floated after much delay as the Asian Development Bank, which is funding metro projects, did not approve of the “Make in India” policy.
