BMC polls: Poster war goes from ward to virtual space
Mumbai: With election dates being announced for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls, posters not just by political parties but even those where alleged citizen groups within the party are targeting sitting corporators have started to crop up across the city.
“Corporator Missing” an alleged poster against the local corporator of ward number 2, Sheetal Mhatre, from Shiv Sena is doing the round online and is being spread by local Shiv Sena leaders themselves.
The banner, which is doing the rounds online reads: “Corporator Missing, wherever you are please come back, we won’t say anything.” The poster is signed by a troubled voter.
However, Ms Mhatre has claimed that the poster is fake and some people who are against her are the ones spreading it on social media.
“Even I got a WhatsApp forward and found that the poster isn’t from my ward. I sent my party workers to find out who was behind the poster and they came back saying the poster is not to be found anywhere in the ward,” she said.
According to Ms Mhatre, the poster is old and from Thane and she knows the people who are behind it.
The poster being circulated is by local Sena leaders, a Sena leader from the area, said, “This poster has been put by disheartened voters this is the feeling of the locals too.”
