Mumbai: With only five days remaining for the polling on February 21, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has recorded 41 cases of violation of code of conduct against candidates across the city.  Of the 41 complaints, FIRs have been registered in three cases, said civic officials.

These complaints have been filed by various political parties and also civic staff who have been asked to monitor the activities of the candidates.

In one case, FIRs have been registered against former mayor and corporator Subha Raul, corporator Sheetal Mhatre, nominated corporator Avkash Jadhav (all from Shiv Sena) and BJP corporator Ritu Tawde. The civic body has sought their explanation for inaugurating ‘Karmayog Udyaan,’ a municipal garden at Dahisar (west) on January 14. The action was taken following a complaint by Abhishek Ghosalkar, another Sena corporator, who alleged that the corporators tried to influence upon voters .

“We have established election booths in all the wards and have deployed staff to make sure that the  code of conduct and other guidelines issued by the state election commission are followed,” said a senior civic official.
