Five booked under ULCRA Act in Thane

Mumbai: The Kashimira police on Friday booked five people for allegedly transferring the rights of notified land in Mire village which fell under the ceiling limit of the Thane Urban Agglome-ration. The accused were booked under sections 199, 200, 406, 418, 420 of the IPC and under relevant sections of the Urban Land (Celling and Regulation) Act (ULCRA). However, no arrests have been made.

The action came in response to a complaint filed by the assistant town planner against-Ashish Jhaveri, Shalini Jhaveri, Anita Bhatia, Yamini Kapadia and Nandita Desai for allegedly  inking a deed of conveyance with a private developer to transfer land admeasuring more than 5,000 square meters which was notified in 2007  thus violating section 20 (rule 9)  of the ULCRA Act.
