BMC's international schools to open soon

The 23 international schools are to open in the city from June 15.

Mumbai: The Brihannumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is all set to open 23 international schools in the city from June 15, for which the admission process will begin by the end of May. The civic body is conducting training for teachers and principals in coordination with private organisations and NGOs. Students will have access to an international curriculum as per Cambridge University, digital classrooms, science laboratories, libraries and classes from 1 to 12 free of cost.

The BMC will manage all the schools. Teachers who are being trained will be imparted in-depth knowledge of the syllabus as per Cambridge University. Three specialised personnel are being appointed by the civic body, who will train the principals and teachers.

The BMC education department has sanctioned the budget for the school infrastructure cell (SIC) for providing students with the equipment and facilities to meet international standards. “The students will be given all the facilities which will make them efficient in all aspects,” said Prakash Charate, a senior official of the department who is in charge of the international school project. From computerised/digital classrooms, library, science and computer labs to activity rooms, the schools will be instated all these things by December this year.”

Asked about how the 23 schools were selected, he said, “The ward officers, education officials and experts were given the responsibility to find each school from 23 wards in the city that could be upgraded. However, if any school still wants to make itself international, it can approach us as we want more and more schools to upgrade themselves as all these things are for the better future of our students.”
