PM Modi to address Madha rally

Pawar was elected from Madha in 2009 and NCP retained the seat even during the 2014 Modi wave.

Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be addressing a rally in Madha constituency on Wednesday. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is going all out to win the constituency, which has been NCP's stronghold.

Sharad Pawar was elected from Madha in 2009 and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) retained the seat even during the Modi-wave in 2014.

The NCP had fielded Sanjay Shinde, who is Solapur Zilla Parishad president, for Madha seat, while the saffron alliance led by the BJP had given a ticket to Ranjit Naik Nimbalkar was the Satara district Congress president. He had joined the BJP on March 25.

Political observers said that Prime Minister would target NCP chief Sharad Pawar as the former is holding rally in latter’s bastion in western Maharashtra.

NCP leader Vijaysinh Mohite Patil is the incumbent MP from this constituency. However, in March 2019, Ranjitsinh Mohite Patil, son of Vijaysinh Mohite Patil, had joined the BJP as the party had denied the ticket to Mohite Patil family. Earlier, Mr Pawar had announced that he would contest the election from Madha constituency but later he changed his mind to not contest the election. Sources said that Vijay-sinh Mohite Patil would share a stage with the Prime Minister Modi at Akluj.

The BJP is hopeful that Modi’s rally would have impact on Madha, Baramati and Solapur.
