Eateries in Breach Candy area razed
Mumbai: Popular eateries like Wraps & Rolls and Punjab-Sindh were demolished as BMC took action against 11 licensed stalls in the Breach Candy area for violating civic terms and conditions. The civic body first cancelled the license of these stalls and then demolished them.
These stalls were operating near Breach Candy Hospital and old American consulate at Bhulabhai Desai Marg. The licensed holder hawkers were given permits for selling various goods but were found violating the license conditions.
“The stall holders were found to be selling goods other than they were permitted to. They had also encroached upon more space than the allotted area and were also run by people other than license holders. The stall holders were issued an inspection report followed by a show cause notice for violating the terms and conditions. But they took no measures to correct the violations. After demolition, we have asked BEST to discontinue power supply to these stalls,” said D ward assistant commissioner Devidas Kshirsagar.
“We found that many of the hawkers who have been operating are not the original licensees. They have also extended the area of 1x1 metre, which was allotted to them. Besides, many were also found selling items, which were different from those mentioned in their licenses. Considering this, we were forced to cancel their licenses and then demolish their stalls,” said a senior civic official.
