Video of Anushka scolding litterer draws criticism

Mumbai: A video of actress Anushka Sharma scolding a man travelling in a luxury car for littering the city streets, posted by her husband and Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli, went viral and  garnered mixed reactions. Kohli posted the video on Twitter at around 5:15 pm on Saturday.

While on a drive with Kohli Saturday evening, Anushka spotted a man throwing garbage on the road from inside his car. In the video, Anushka is heard asking, “Why are you throwing garbage on the road?” She is further heard saying, “Please use the dustbin” even as the man looks taken aback.

Posting a video of the same, Kohli wrote, “Saw these people throwing garbage on the road and pulled them up rightfully. Travelling in a luxury car, and brains gone for a toss. These people will keep our country clean! Yeah right! If you see something wrong happening like this, do the same and spread awareness.”

The video went viral on social media platforms including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, drawing both appreciation and criticism.

Reacting to the same, Kohli tweeted, “A lot of people who don’t have the courage to do something like this find it funny. Everything for people nowadays is meme content. Shame!”

Incidentally in 2017, Anushka was the face of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan” that focused on cleaner roads. The actress has taken the movement seriously, famously taking up the broom to clean Versova Beach in Mumbai last year.
