Week gets off to wet start, city braces for more rain

Mumbai: It was a wet start to the week for Mumbaikars as incessant rain lashed the city on Monday. As per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), several parts of Mumbai received moderate rain while heavy rain was recorded in the eastern suburbs.

Moderate to heavy rain is expected in some parts of Mumbai and the suburbs in the next 24 hours. The intensity of rain is likely to reduce after July 23.

According to the Indian Meteorological Depar-tment, “The south-west monsoon has been strong to vigorous over the west-central and south-west Arabian sea; strong over the east-central Arabian sea; moderate to strong over the south-east Arabian sea; and moderate over the north-east Arabian sea. Moderate to heavy rain is expected in parts of Mumbai and the suburbs in the next 24 hours.”

Private weather agency, Skymet Weather, said that the off-shore trough along the west coast and a cyclonic circulation over south coastal Gujarat would continue to bring good rain in Mumbai, with a few heavy spells for another 24 hours.

Thereafter, rain may reduce but sporadic rain will continue till July 23.
