Only single case of noise pollution reported in 2017
Mumbai: Unlike last year when 21 cases were registered against Dahi Handi mandals for alleged violation of court-imposed restrictions, the Mumbai police registered only one case pertaining to the use of loudspeaker without permission in Chembur on Tuesday.
The Supreme Court order in the last year barred those below 18 years from participating in the human pyramids, which are the main attraction of the Janmashtami festival in Maharashtra, and capping the height of pyramids at 20 feet. But this year, after the Bombay High Court decision, there were no restrictions on height, though the age restriction was brought down from 18 to 14 years, making it mandatory for participants to declare their age while registering.
With limited restrictions and security taken care of, there was only one case registered with the Mumbai police where a 33-year-old Bunty Mahadik was arrested for playing music on the loudspeaker post 10 pm, when loudspeakers are banned, according to the Noise Pollution (regulation and control) Rules, 2000.
