Mumbai: Shiv Sena has slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party-led state government for the third consecutive day, this time on the Maratha reservation issue. The Sena in its mouthpiece Saamana has said that the road show with Japanese Prime Minister was followed by the bullet train project’s foundation stone-laying ceremony; but after the Maratha community held a huge road show, it received nothing from the government.

Earlier, the Sena had criticised the government over the bullet train project, terming it futile, and load-shedding, which has resumed in the state owing to shortage of coal.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted a road show with Japanese Prime Minister Schinzo Abe, after which the foundation stone was laid for the bullet train. If this is the benefit of a road show, it has not been the case with the Maratha community, which also held many protests and road shows. For the dream train, the Maharashtra chief minister is going to spend `40,000 crore while Maratha community issue was sent to a sub-committee,” the editorial said.

On August 9, a huge protest march was organised by the Maratha community in Mumbai. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis met the agitators and assured them that they would get reservation. But the point is that no timeline was defined for that, the Sena pointed out.

Terming the discussion between the sub-committee and the government as “time pass,” the Sena asked how long this would continue.

“The committee holds discussions every three months with the Maratha organisations about reservation. How long will this time pass go on?” the Sena said.
