Court issues NBW against youths missing since 2014

The youths went to Iraq in 2014 on Ziyarat (pilgrimage) Visa and went missing.

Mumbai: A special NIA court on Friday issued open ended non-bailable warrant against three Kalyan youths who went to Iraq in 2014 on Ziyarat (pilgrimage) Visa and went missing. The NBW has been issued on request of NIA as the youths are still untraceable and NIA suspect they have joined ISIS in Iraq. Of the four who had left India, Areeb Majeed is already arrested and is facing trial.

Special public prosecutor Geeta Godambe in the presence of deputy SP Indrajit Singh Bisht submitted an application before special the NIA judge S.M. Bhosale seeking issuance of NBW against Saheem Tanki, Fahad Shaikh and Aman Tandel.

According to the NIA, a case has already been registered against them under section 16, 18 and 20 of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and they are wanted in the case. The investigating agency suspect that all three have joined banned organisation ISIS and hence the officers wants to arrest them.

The public prosecutor requested the court to issue open-ended NBW (without an expiry date) because the probe agency has already made attempts to trace them but failed to get their whereabouts.

The judge allowed the application and directed for issuance of open-ended NBW against the accused.

According to police, the four engineering students flew to Baghdad on May 23 as part of a group of 22 pilgrims to visit religious shrines in Iraq. Upon returning to India, other pilgrims had told police that Areeb, Fahad, Aman and Saheem had hired a taxi to Fallujah, a city west of Baghdad, which had emerged as the epicentre of Iraq’s deadly insurgency.
