200 farmers reclaim' land from Nirav Modi
Alleging that Mr Modi had acquired their lands at less than the prevailing market rate.
Mumbai: Farmers in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra have taken over, through a symbolic gesture, 125 acres of land belonging to fugitive diamantaire Nirav Modi. The land was recently seized by the ED in connection with the multi-billion PNB scam.
Alleging that Mr Modi had acquired their lands at less than the prevailing market rate, a group of more than 200 farmers on Saturday arrived at the tract of land at Khandala in Ka-rjat tehsil and ploughed a part of it using a tractor. “The land was acquired from farmers at around Rs 15,000 per acre, whereas the government rate for land compensation in the area is around Rs 20 lakh per acre now,” an activist said.
