Rain likely in some parts of state, says IMD
Mumbai: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday predicted that rain or thundershowers were likely at a few places:
Matheran, Roha, Mahad and Poladpur in Raigad district and Marathwada over the next 24 hours.
The weather was likely to remain dry over the rest of the region. The rains could be associated with the trough extending from the north-west to the south of Konkan across madhya Maharashtra.
The rains would be a breather for all four regions as they would bring much-needed relief from the scorching heat. In fact, clouds had started forming at many places since Friday evening.
K.S. Hosalikar, deputy director general, western region, IMD, said, “These rains can be linked with the trough that is extending from the north-west to the south of Konkan across madhya Maharashtra.”
“The low at mean sea level over the equatorial Indian ocean, adjoining the south-east and Arabian Sea with cyclonic circulation aloft extending up to 1.5km in the sea may be the reason for such type of rain,” he explained.
The IMD predicted light to moderate rain and thundershowers in most parts of the state. Badlapur, Konkan and madhya Maharashtra could experience drizzle. The districts affected by pre-monsoon showers may include Nagpur, Akola, Chandrapur, Nanded, Parbhani, Latur, Jalna, Hingoli, Nashik, Pune, Ahmednagar, Ratnagiri and Raigad.
