Mumbai: Tansa lake became the fourth lake to overflow this month. The lake started overflowing around 8.30 am on Tuesday. After heavy rains since the last two days, Mumbai received light rains on Tuesday.

During the last 24 hours since 8. 30am on Monday, the Santacruz observatory recorded 37.6 mm of rains, while the Colaba observatory recorded 16mm of rain. The Indian Meteorolog-ical Department (IMD) has forecasted intermittent rains over city with heavy spells in isolated parts in the next 48 hours, however the intensity of rain is likely to reduce.

According to the IMD report, southwest monsoon has been strong to vigorous over west central Arabian Sea, strong over northeast, east central and southwest Arabian Sea and moderate to strong over southeast Arabian Sea.

As per the Skymet weather, city rains are expected to reduce further. “The reduction of rains in the city can be attributed to the westward shift of the cyclonic circulation over south Gujarat along with the weakening of offshore trough at the western coast. This month, four of the city’s lakes had overflown with Tansa being fourth and Vihar, Tulsi and Modak Sagar been the first three.
