Mumbai: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah held a meeting with a few Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and fellow party leaders late on Tuesday night at the RSS’s Vile Parle office.

Mr Shah sudden arrival sparked speculation. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and BJP state president Raosaheb Danve met Mr Shah in Delhi on Monday and discussed the Lok Sabha election preparations. Considering the tensions between the Shiv Sena and BJP, and the impending Dussehra rally of the former, it was expected that Mr Shah would meet Uddhav Thackeray. Mr Shah had assured Mr Thackeray that he would meet again in a few months, but the BJP leader avoided meeting the Sena chief whenever he visited the city.

After arriving in the city, Mr Shah visited the RSS office at Vile Parle. Mr Shah wanted to meet a few select RSS and BJP leaders to discuss the party’s poll strategy. RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and general secretary Bhayyaji Joshi was not present at the
meeting, but organisation secretary Vijay Puranik and other RSS leaders were present, sources said.

Though a detailed agenda was not decided beforehand, issues of coordination between the RSS and BJP at the micro level were discussed. RSS leaders raised a few points on some issues at the meeting, a source said, adding that it was a routine meeting for which Mr Shah spared some time. BJP and RSS leaders were tight-lipped about the meeting.
