The accused has been remanded in police custody till Friday.

Mumbai: A team of Mumbai police cyber cell arrested a man from Vijaywada in Andhra Pradesh for harassing a radio jockey in Mumbai and threatening to circulate morphed photos on social media. “The duo had met on a matrimonial website and after the victim distanced herself from him, he resorted to these acts,” police said.

The arrested accused, identified as Vijay Alexander (32), is a cab driver and had been stalking her even after she distanced herself from him. “The accused later threatened to circulate morphed photos of her on social media,” a police officer said. Following the harassment and threats, the 34-year-old radio jockey approached the Mumbai police and lodged a complaint on November 6. The cyber cell subsequently tracked down the accused in Andhra Pradesh and apprehended him. “The complainant got suspicious after Alexander started asking for confidential details like bank account number and passwords. Sensing that something is amiss, the complainant stopped all communication with the accused and blocked his contact number. A spurned Alexander then sent abusive texts following which the complaint was filed with the cyber police,” said a police officer.

The police is interrogating Alexander, who was nabbed from Vijayawada. The preliminary probe revealed that the accused had similarly targeted several women using their details posted on various matrimonial websites. The accused has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act. He has been remanded in police custody till Friday.
