Missing 19-yr-old's body found in river
Mumbai : The body of a teenaged girl was found in a river in Maharashtra's Bhandara district, four days after she went missing, a senior police official said. The 19-year-old left her Bhandara city home in the evening on January 13 to go to her tuition classes but did not return. The next day, her parents filed a missing persons’ complaint. Inspector Manoj Sidam said, “We started the investigation, interrogated a few locals, and also looked into her call data records to find her whereabouts.”
Prima facie, the girl appears to have committed suicide as she was upset over her troubled relationship with two men. Based on suspicion raised by her family members, the police on January 15 started probing and nabbed the two men suspected to have been involved with the girl for questioning. Inspector Sidam said, “The girl’s body did not bear any injury marks or signs of assault which shows that nobody physically assaulted her.”
Inspector Sidam said, “During the course of the investigation, the teenager's body was found floating in the Wainganga river in Bhandara on Wednesday, and was sent for a post-mortem.”
Inspector Sidam said that the two men have been booked and placed under arrest under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including 306 (abetment of suicide), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 507 (criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication). Further investigation is underway, the police official added.
