Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) in order to attract more commuters is contemplating changing the colour of its buses from red to white.

Jagdish Patil, general manager, BEST, said, “Currently, we are going to conduct trial runs with two white buses and see how to the general public react to them. Also, it is not that we are going to randomly change the colour of all our fleets from red to white at one go, but are going to take review from the drivers, conductors and the general public after conducting the trial run of newly-painted white buses.”

Five students of JJ Institute of Applied Art, along with their professor, have designed a new look and logo for the BEST buses. The BEST has got approval from the state transport department to ply two buses. Previously, one out of the two white buses was going to be AC and the other one Non-AC, but now both the newly painted white buses would be Non-AC.

Starting Monday, BEST will shutdown all its 266 AC buses in order to bring down the Rs 82 crore per annum losses it was suffering due to the fleet.

The BEST’s symbol of the bulb and the front-view of the BEST bus were also designed by professors from the JJ Institute of Applied Art in the 1960s.
