Schools yet to be briefed about re-exams
Mumbai: Although the state government has decided to conduct re-examinations for class IX students who flunked in their first attempt, schools in the city are yet to receive any schedule or dates for the re-examinations.On April 7, the state proposed that the state board schools conduct re-examinations for class IX students who had failed in their first attempt in the month of June.
However, no concrete schedule has been provided to city schools till date. Jayashree Buddhi, a teacher in a Vile Parle-based state board school said, “We are okay with the idea of re-examinations as it will save an entire academic year for students who have failed in their first attempt. While issuing the circular however, the state education department should have provided more clarity on what is to be done and how.”
“They have asked us teachers to conduct special classes for these students but does this mean we won’t be getting any summer vacation? Or are there any specific dates when we need to conduct the classes?
We asked schools, which, too, were clueless. So, whom do we ask now?” she said. By the end of April and beginning of May, all results of class IX students will be declared by the schools.
According to the |government circular, schools have been asked to conduct a special 30-day class for students, with 15 days to be given to them for self-study before their final attempt.
A senior official of the state education department said, “A rough date and schedule will be given to the schools very soon, and they will be given the liberty to mend it as per the presence of teachers.”
