State appoints task force for new airport
Mumbai: In a bid to expedite the work of Navi Mumbai airport, the Maharashtra government has appointed a task force helmed by the chief secretary to ensure that basic amenities for the airport such as roads, water supply and electricity are put in place.
The task force is constituted by 17 members and six special invitees from various government departments. An official from the urban development department said, “The task force is expected to ensure that work is completed in a time-bound manner. It is expected to make sure that the airport has connectivity through roads, railways, the metro and trans-harbour link. That the airport has basic facilities including water and electricity supply.”
The task force will also look into various permissions for the airport from government departments. The task force will coordinate with people and organisations related to the Navi Mumbai airport work, the official said.
The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) is the nodal agency for the greenfield project that will cover an area of 1,600 hectare in Navi Mumbai.
